16th death anniversary of Language warrior M Shamsul Haque MP

Mymensingh Awami League‘s proverbial politician, five-time former MP from Phulpur-Tarakanda constituency, freedom fighter and linguist M Shamsul Haque’s 16 th death anniversary has been celebrated.

Sharif Ahmed, state minister for public works and eldest son of late M Shamsul Haque, was present as the chief guest at the prayer and remembrance function at the town hall auditorium of the city on Thursday evening.

  • State Minister for Culture Kazi Fahmi Golandaj Babel, Nazim Uddin Ahmed MP, Monira Sultana Moni MP, Mymensingh City Corporation Mayor Md. Ikramul Haque Titu. Mymensingh Metropolitan Awami League President Ehteshamul Alam presided over it.

M Shamsul Haque was the president of Mymensingh district Awami League and a member of Central Awami League. He died on 27 May 2005

Speakers at the commemoration said, ‘The late M Shamsul Haque was a legend in the politics of Mymensingh. Starting from the great language movement, he actively participated in the United Front and the Liberation War of 1954. He took part in the language movement and played an important role in setting up the first Shaheed Minar in Mymensingh. As a linguist, he was posthumously awarded the Ekushey Padak.

Besides, on the occasion of the 16th death anniversary of linguist M Shamsul Haque, State Minister for Public Works Sharif Ahmed visited his father’s grave at Bangabandhu Government Degree College ground in Tarakanda at noon yesterday.
